Quartz Winery

Located in the village of Etlan, Blue Quartz Winery and Shotwell Run Brewing Co. share a tasting and taproom, featuring craft wine, beer, and cider.

Owners Hal White and Chris Wallin have finally realized their dream for a farm winery as the tasting room for Blue Quartz Winery opened on July 13, 2019. Madison County’s newest winery and tasting room sits on a knoll overlooking the beautifully maintained vineyard and Old Rag Mountain. The inside is finished with rustic hickory flooring, pine walls, and a cathedral ceiling hung with antique wagon wheel chandeliers. Five French doors lead to spacious outdoor areas: a large central patio, two covered pavilions, an expansive lawn with picnic tables, and a German Bier Garten. Currently, we have a few wines for sale along with our signature Thornton River Cider. We are home to Shotwell Run Brewing Company, which features a selection of seasonal craft beers brewed on site.

Bald Top Brewing Co

Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, under the long shadow of its nearest peak, Bald Top Mountain (Elev. 1647), Woodbourne Estate proudly stands.  In the heart of the 53 acres rests the Manor House and Stone Kitchen, circa 1810.  The property is listed in Virginia Landmarks Register and on the National Register of Historic Places.  Woodbourne Estate is the new home for Bald Top Brewing Co, Virginia’s First Historic Farm Brewery.

In addition to each other, owners Julie and Dave love Virginia history, the rolling hills of the piedmont and its diverse nature, and entertaining with great wine and beer. Since moving to Woodbourne, Julie and Dave hosted friends and family from all over the world, and with each visit, our guests would rave about the unique beauty of the historic farm and surrounding pasture.

DuCard Vineyards

We have been growing grapes for nearly two decades at our property, nestled at the eastern edge of the Shenandoah National Park in the shadow of Old Rag Mountain and White Oak Canyon.

Our story is best described as a “hobby gone wild,” and you can read a fun and interesting set of articles from the Piedmont Virginian Magazine about how we got started and our journey over the years. These are available on the Occasional Musings page.

Revelation Vineyards

Let the vines sing!
Be the wines local.
Quality over quantity.
Train the youngsters.

Françoise, a Belgian mathematician, and Julian, an Irish dentist, first met in bustling London just as Françoise was about to move to California. Julian followed her over, and together in the BayArea they fell in love with the world of fine wine. Meeting scientists who had started their own vineyards led them to realize that they could one day turn their shared passion into a labor of love. Time marched on, and numerous wine tastings and viticulture classes helped to support their passion with a deeper breadth of knowledge.

Together, they moved to Washington D.C. and came to discover the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the hidden bounty of Virginia wines. In 2006, after a four-year search, they bought a horse farm and began the work of turning it into a vineyard during their weekends. In 2012, Françoise transitioned from her academic career to become a full-time vineyard manager. While Julian continues his endodontic practice, he spends his weekends at the vineyard and in the tasting room.

Prince Michele Winery and Vineyards

Home to Prince Michel and Rapidan River Wines, Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery is one of the east coast’s premier wine estates.  A family and pet-friendly establishment, Prince Michel is one of the oldest and largest wineries in the Commonwealth and is now the home of Tap 29 Brew Pub, serving up some of the finest local craft brews and pub-style food 7 days a week.

When Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery was founded in 1982 by Parisians Jean and Sylvian LeDucq, a vision was formed out of the love of Virginia and its relationship to the vine. Prince Michel has grown to become one of the largest, most widely distributed and recognized wineries in the state as well as along the east coast. Our wines have won competitions around the world and flourished with the efforts of our founders, the LeDucq's, owner Kristin Easter, employees, and loyal customers.
